International Seminar on "Transformations and Convergent Models of Journalism in the Digital Environment"

On March 26, 2026, the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” will host an international seminar on the topic Transformations and Convergent Models of Journalism in the Digital Environment. The event is organized as part of Project No. KP-06-N65/9 dated December 12, 2022, on the topic “Transformational and Convergent Models of Journalism in the Process of Digitization and in the Digital Society in a Communicative Context: Dispositive Analysis,” funded by the Scientific Research Fund.
The seminar will be held online via the Zoom platform, starting at 10:00 a.m.
The forum will be opened by Prof. Dr. Nikolay Mihaylov, project coordinator, and the program includes three thematic panels dedicated to current research issues related to the digital transformation of journalism and communication.
The first two panels will be conducted in Bulgarian and will focus on topics such as media trust, professional ethics in the digital environment, visual communication, fact-checking, freedom of speech, strategic and institutional communications, as well as changes in media business models. The third panel will be conducted in English and is dedicated to platform-based public discourse, ethical challenges facing journalism, AI-generated content, visual advocacy, and convergent models of communication.
The seminar will feature faculty members, researchers, and doctoral students from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” as well as scholars from foreign universities and academic institutions in Romania, Poland, Georgia, and the United States. The event will provide an opportunity for international academic exchange on some of the most important issues facing journalism and the media in the digital age.
