Communication and audiovisual production
Description
The Department of Communication and Audiovisual Production was established at the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication by a decision of the Academic Council of Sofia University on March 30, 2016 (Minutes No. 6).
The department develops and coordinates the curriculum for the Communication Management degree program for the Bachelor's degree.
The Communication Management degree program was established by a decision of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication on March 30, 2017 (Minutes No. 5) and by a decision of the Academic Council of Sofia University on April 26, 2017 (Minutes No. 9).
The first students in the Communication Management program were admitted in the 2018/2019 academic year. The program builds on established theoretical concepts in the paradigm of communication management, developing an understanding of the complex nature of the scientific concept of "communication management."
Thanks to the work of a team of lecturers with experience in academic mobility, the Communication Management program is comparable and compatible with bachelor's and master's programs in the European Union and beyond. The participation of students from the Communication Management program in initiatives, exchange of experience, academic forums, as well as the integration of supranational educational modules, projects, and events, provides them with access to shared European standards and values and sensitivity to the dynamics of communication professions and the changing media environment.
The department provides student teams with research publications abroad – on the EUfactcheck fact-checking platform of the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA) and on CERN's open science platform.
The Department of Communication and Audiovisual Production also offers master's degree programs in "Production and Creative Industry", "Brand Communication", and "Communication Diplomacy", which are highly regarded among prospective students.
At the doctoral level, the department teaches the course "Communication Management and Content Marketing" in the doctoral program "Media and Communications" and encourages research in the field of communication and media theory and practice.
The first head of the Department of Communication and Audiovisual Production was Prof. Milko Petrov, PhD. Over the years, the department has been headed by Prof. Teodora Petrova, PhD, and Prof. Simeon Vassilev, PhD.
The academic staff of the Department of Communication and Audiovisual Production demonstrates continuity in scientific potential and constructive energy in the mission of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication to be a leading educational unit in the professional field 3.5.
