On July 31, 2025, the Accreditation Council of the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation granted program accreditation to professional field 3.5. Public Communications and Information Sciences at Sofia University on the basis of an overall assessment of 9.52 – full compliance. The accreditation covers 30 specialties at Sofia University. Of these, 23 are in the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication (4 for bachelor's degrees and 19 for master's degrees). Of a total of 9 higher education institutions with accreditation under PN 3.5. as of 2023, only 7 higher education institutions will have valid accreditation at the end of 2025 (no new accreditation has been requested by Burgas Free University; accreditation has been denied to the American University in Blagoevgrad). Sofia University is the undisputed leader in this ranking.
