Desislava Sotirova
Assist. Prof. Dr. Desislava Sotirova is a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of
Journalism and Mass Communication at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. She is a
graduate of the same faculty, having completed a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism
(2012–2016) and a Master’s degree in International Journalism (2016–2017) under the
supervision of Prof. Dr. Maria Neykova. She obtained her PhD in International Journalism in
2021.
She has worked as a freelance journalist for several national television networks and
has long-standing experience as a reporter and editor at the university television channel Alma
Mater, which is considered one of the few successful examples worldwide of an academic
media outlet.
She is the author of the monograph “Framed Events: Media Coverage of the Euro-
Atlantic Integration of the Western Balkans (1999-2018)” (2022), as well as numerous
scholarly articles and papers presented at international and national conferences.
She is a guest lecturer at the University of Vienna (Vienna, Austria).
She is a member of the editorial board of the electronic academic journal for media
studies, media culture, and communication Medialog.
