Memorandum of Cooperation between FJMC, UNICEF and AEJ
On 7 June 2020 at the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" a tripartite Memorandum of Cooperation between the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, UNICEF and the Association of European Journalists in Bulgaria was signed by Prof. Dr. Veselina Valkanova, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr. Jane Muita, UNICEF Representative in Bulgaria, and Ivan Radev, Member of the Board of AEJ - Bulgaria.
"Starting today, our organizations will partner for children's rights in the media. We will work for ethical reporting of children, as well as digital media literacy among young people. The first common step is an elective course on "Children and the Media" for Sofia University students, which will start next semester and will be based on the "Guide to Ethical Media Reporting for Children" developed by UNICEF and AEJ-Bulgaria in 2018. This was stated by Prof. Dr. Vesselina Valkanova, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication at the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Cooperation between FJMC, UNICEF and AEJ-Bulgaria.
"When we put children at the centre of our efforts, everything else falls into place," said Dr. Jane Muita, UNICEF Representative for Bulgaria. According to her, the results that UNICEF is achieving in Bulgaria in the field of ethical reporting on children are already serving as an example for other countries around the world.
"The introduction of this course in the curriculum of the FJMC will ensure the sustainability of our common work for the best interest of the child," said Ivan Radev, member of the Board of AEJ-Bulgaria.
